Choosing a Device

There are three companies that make DBS devices - Abbott, Boston Scientific, and Medtronic. All three devices offer directional programming, which allows your neurologist to direct the stimulation to areas of the brain that improve Parkinson’s symptoms and away from areas that cause side effects. All three systems are considered MRI conditional, meaning patients with these devices can have an MRI done as long as certain conditions are met. The table below shows some of the unique features of each device.
